About Gail

Artist’s Statement:

I believe that the world we live in is an astoundingly beautiful place that most of us fail to appreciate fully. It is rich with beauty, details, patterns and textures that too often go unnoticed and unappreciated. I use photography in nontraditional ways to go beyond how we normally see our natural world and to invite our awareness back to those details.  Being more attuned and aware of the natural world helps us reconnect with its healing properties.

My process, while grounded in a solid mastery of photographic fundamentals, tends to be playful and intuitive.  The process of creating images gives me a sense of joy, wonder, and delight which, hopefully, translate into the images.  I hope to convey the feeling of a scene or subject not just what is visually present.

Bio

Gail S. Haile creates art that invites people to look at the natural world through new eyes, to see it as if for the first time and be filled with a sense of wonder and delight.  She uses the fundamentals of photography in unusual ways to create ethereal interpretations of the natural world.

Creating has been constant throughout all of Haile’s life, expressed in many disparate ways.  Photography was one of those ways, along with an urge to “some day” study it seriously.  With degrees in Social Work and Counseling, she spent time in the helping professions.  After overcoming a serious health challenge she had a heightened appreciation for the precious fragility and beauty of life.  The experience amplified her already keen awareness of the beauty in the details of the everyday, the ordinary details of the world right in front of our eyes.  She was then inspired to change studying photography “some day” to “today”.  She studied photography at the college level and went on to study at numerous workshops and intensives and be granted the Master of Photography degree from Professional Photographers of America.  She continues to test the boundaries and possibilities that photography offers to express her vision of our world.

The artist recently relocated, with her husband, Michael, to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia after a lifetime in the Northeast.  Her work has been accepted into numerous national and international juried exhibitions, including A Smith GallerySE Center for Photography, PHOTO Fine Art, and International Photographic Competition, and is included in private as well as public collections across the US and abroad.  She has work with Blink Art, a division of Art Design Consultants, as well as various local galleries.
